Ubud; the arts and cultural centre of Bali. This is the place where you can find the Kecak fire dance performance—a traditional Hindu dance about the tale of Ramayana—and youths playing the gamelan—a traditional Balinese music instrument.
Ubud is also known for its beautiful rice terraces and green landscaping all around. While it is a bit far from the city, the beauty and serenity of the place make your trip worthwhile.
In fact, weddings in Ubud are pretty spectacular. One place to have a forest-themed wedding is Ubud Valley Boutique Resort, which is also known as “A Hanging Wonderland in Ubud".
We managed to have a chat about the resort and weddings with the team from Ubud Valley. Here’s a snippet of our conversation with them:
1. When was Ubud Valley Boutique Resort opened?
It was opened on May 20, 2019. It took more than four years to build this resort.
2. What is the founder’s/ owner's vision when he/ she opened this resort? What was the story behind it?
The owner is Dewa Gede Ardana and he is a painter. He started construction on the land in 2014. The total land area is about 0.8 acres. His son, Dewa Gede Putrawan, and his father loved wood very much, especially recycled teak wood. As they collected recycled wood, they built the houses (or villas) one by one.
3. Why did the owner decide to go with the Joglo wooden house concept? Aside from its Javanese heritage, what’s special about it?
Joglo house is a traditional Javanese house commonly made of teak wood. It has a pyramid-like roof called tajug, which symbolises the shape of the mountain. The term Joglo came from two words, tajug and loro which means 'merging two knives'.
The mountain is seen as a home to the Gods. That is why the Javanese believe that the mountain is a symbol of sacredness.
4. What do you recommend guests do in Ubud?
There are many activities you can do in Ubud.
