From the garden to the beach with a reincarnation of Hogwarts in between - a unique tri-theme pre-wedding photoshoot in Hong Kong snaps the perfect shot for life’s upcoming most romantic and cherished chapter.
Earlier this year on March 21st, the soon-to-be wedded couple of Carmen and Charles drew upon their wildest imaginations and set out for a one of a kind pre-wedding photoshoot that not only included the cliché gown and suit snapshots, but was also sprinkled with sci-fi fantasy and the tropical sun and sand surroundings. Yes that’s right, a tri-themed photoshoot all on one single day!
Kicking things off in Sai Kung, at the Lions Nature Education Centre was the standard formal attire theme. However to add a little bit of spice to it, the couple decided on a simple garden setting outdoors and instead of that big long white wedding gown, Carmen decided to go the more elegant route and instead fashion an ivory-white Jenny Packham Aspen gown, similar to the style fashioned by The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton back at the 2012 Olympics Gala. The bride-to-be could not have been happier with the style as it featured exquisite lace details on the back, which was fastened by a row of silk buttons and sleeves that were also capped by lace too. Charles on the other hand matched up beautifully with his other half, modeling a navy blue Japanese-styled tuxedo from Mode Tuxedo.
The second theme was certainly the one that took on the couple’s imaginative images and brought them to life. Carmen and Charles who are both huge fans of the popular child wizard, Harry Potter, made a point to not leave out this common interest on their special occasion, and therefore a Harry Potter themed photoshoot was born. As one can imagine, a lot of props are needed for this theme to work so the couple really did have their homework set in the weeks leading up to the photoshoot. DIY props included golden snitches made from Ferrero Rocher chocolates, butter-beer bottles, beans of every flavor imaginable and of course, a full range of costumes including Gryffindor ties, scarves, cardigans, wands and even brooms (not the Nimbus 2000 or Firebolt)! Last but not least, how could a Harry Potter themed photoshoot (or anything for that matter) be complete without the novels themselves? You got that right, all seven of them along with some limited edition versions too! Magical moments were snapped here including a few of the couple floating on broomsticks suspended in mid-air. Just how on earth did they get up there you may ask? “It was Wingardium Leviosa” as the couple replied, quickly rejecting our idea of any use of green screens…
Back to reality and the blissful setting of the sun and sand was to follow. Set on Repulse Bay beach alongside origami elements - resulting from back in their dating days, where Charles first wooed his future bride with a range of sweet handmade origami gifts (as sweet as it can get from a man to a woman, right?). Countless numbers of sleepless nights were spent as Charles tirelessly worked on his origami techniques, constructing various paper elephants and crane birds for the shoot. With Carmen wearing a casual dress from Anthropologie and Charles fashioning a pair of khaki shorts and a Jack Wills shirt, the couple concluded their unique photo day with a tiny sneak peek of what’s to come as husband and wife; glimpses of simplistic, casual and romantic moments tied in with endless amounts of smiles and happiness.
Even though the weather didn’t help much on the of the photoshoot, Martin Aesthetics (photographer) still managed to capture a variety of amazing unforgettable moments leaving the couple extremely thankful and pleased with the whole outcome as the shots complimented perfectly to what they wanted to portray – being themselves whilst being happy with one another at the same time. Aside from great photography skills, he also has the amazing ability to make one feel comfortable in an unfamiliar environment. More thanks also go out to make-up artist and stylist, Xing MaQuillage who did a tremendous job considering the rainy patches during the day and Lemongrass Wedding Floral & Accessories (florist) who provided beautiful bouquets and floral accessories to compliment the pictures.
