A Destination Wedding in Bali
Jade Cheong first met her husband, Joseph Ho, during a matchmaking session for a friend, Betty*. With the intention of being a supportive friend, Jade agreed to accompany Betty to this ‘meet-up’.
What happened next was that Joseph went back to Australia to complete his studies and there was silence for about six months. No text message. No calls.
Come Jan 2016, Jade’s Matchmaker Friend, Carissa*, mentioned about a meet-up with Joseph. Thinking that she was meant to accompany Betty for a second date, Jade had no idea that Joseph wanted to see her! Alone!
In an interview with Hitchbird, Jade shared, “Towards the meet-up, I asked for more details and she (Carissa) said that she didn’t invite the other friend (Betty) because my husband (Joseph) only wanted to meet up with me!”
Aww.
To cut a long story short, Jade went on a date with Joseph and three years later, they got hitched!
*Names have been changed to maintain anonymity.
The couple, both of whom were born and bred in Singapore, wanted a Bali destination wedding. The goal was simple: To have a small destination wedding with close family and friends.
Jade shared, “Our first overseas trip together was to Bali. After that, we went to Bali like 4 times!
“We really like the place and the hospitality.”
With assistance from Hitchbird, the couple made arrangements to have their wedding ceremony at the award-winning Impiana Private Villas Cemagi in Bali.
“We went to inspect Impiana during the day. We loved the sea view, the grass patch, and the garden. It was very nice,” she shared.
When asked about her experience working withthe Hitchbird Wedding Concierge team, Jade said, “The team was proactive and patient with us. In fact, I think Joseph and I bothered them quite a bit.
“We’re grateful for their service to help coordinate with the villa and to recommend us alternatives.”
To reflect the blue sea and floral garden setting, the couple went for a blue, pink, and white colour combo for their Bali destination wedding theme.
The beautiful flower arch and blue tieback cloths on guests’ chairs at Impiana clearly reflected this.
The bride’s pink and white bouquet were provided by Martha Florist & Event Production.
The couple’s wedding invite, which was designed by Drummond Printing Pte Ltd, comes with a sea and sand design that immediately informs guests that it is a beach/ outdoor wedding.
With a laugh, Jade said, “Actually, my husband was the one who decided what look I should have…. He wanted a mermaid sort of style.”
For her wedding ceremony, Jade had opted for a white floral and sequined sleeveless dress with beautiful embroidery at the bottom from Betty Loft. The style of the dress did a great job at bringing out Jade’s natural curves.
Joseph donned a Benjamin Barker purplish-blue suit jacket with a white shirt underneath. He matched his top with a beige-coloured pants and classic brown leather shoes.
To complement her white dress, Jade’s bridesmaids donned pale pink dresses from TaoBao which had beautiful floral detailing at the waist and shoulders.
The groomsmen came dressed in dark blue blazers and white shirts, which coordinated well with the groom’s attire.
The couple kept things simple for their cake and went for a 2-tier cake with raspberry and blueberry toppings that was prepared by Impiana.

A few days prior to their wedding, Jade and Joseph took to the streets of Bali to find the perfect souvenirs for their guests — all of whom were flying out to Bali for their big day!
The duo decided on practical items such as air fresheners, scarves, and honey.

The Bali destination wedding package with Impiana included a wedding photographer, videographer, food, and floral decorations.
Jade said, “They were very professional and fast in their replies. When we needed help, they would quickly try and settle it for us.”
After the wedding, Jade stayed on in Bali with her parents while Joseph flew back to Singapore. On his way to the airport that day, Jade realised that his bags and passport were still in the villa!
With concern in her voice, Jade shared, “I told the Impiana staff and they quickly despatched two of their kitchen staff who had motorbikes. They helped to transport his stuff to the airport and they made it on time!”
Now that’s what we call going above and beyond to make your customers happy!
Q: What did you think of Joseph when you first met him? Did you find him attractive?
A: I thought that his eyes were very big and attractive. I also noticed his biceps (which he developed from dragon boating in Australia).
Q: What do you love most about Joseph?
A: He is very caring towards his friends and family. He is dependable. I like that we complement each other as well. I am more talkative and crazy whereas he is more mature and introverted.
Q: Tell us about the proposal.
A: Last Christmas, we travelled to Vietnam. When we woke up on Christmas morning, he excused himself and went downstairs, claiming that he wanted to look for a breakfast place since the hotel had no breakfast. I didn’t suspect anything at the time.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang. I opened the door and Joseph and some of the hotel staff came in with balloons, flowers, and a big trolley of food. That was when he proposed.
I expected it (the proposal) to be sometime during Christmas Eve because he told me to dress up for dinner that night. I was a bit disappointed when it didn’t happen then. But, when it happened the next morning, I was really surprised!
