From the bride:
The love story:
I had first heard of Arthur via a client/friend. However, I had to wait a year before I finally met the man with the old English name. (A year in the land of Singapore is basically equivalent to 7 dogs years!) When I finally met him at a work function I remember thinking finally, the Arthur Baker and went gleefully up to him to introduce myself. I had expected the same gleeful response in return. Sadly, I did not receive it and after a few pleasantries was quickly rebuffed. I remember thinking to myself, no one shuts me off. I will do the cutting off! Lol! The following days he tried to contact me under the guise of work but I quickly, but professionally, ignored him for a few weeks. Finally, after professionalism got the better of me I responded to him thinking he had some work to discuss. Little did I know that he wanted to take me out to dinner. And the rest is history.
The Big Day:
The biggest piece of advice I received for our wedding day was to enjoy every moment of it because it will go by in a flash. I knew that the one thing I did not want to worry about on my wedding day was the functionality of the wedding eg., what music the band would play or if the place settings were done properly. I wanted to enjoy my wedding and the party as if I was my own guests. Which is why we hired Jeanette, because we knew that it would be absolutely stress free.
The inspiration behind the day:
The inspiration was a bit of Newcastle (football) and a bit of modern Thai. Arthur was insistence to have his black and white stripes (symbol of New castle) which was very taboo to have for Thai culture. It was a huge challenge to incorporate what my husband wanted which was his black and white Newcastle football stripes and with my Thai culture. So I did the best I could to make both sides of my family happy. One of the first lessons I quickly learned in marriage. The second lesson I quickly learned was you can never make both sides happy. Haha.
Special touches that made the wedding extra lovely:
I love the little details on anything. So I love having the little touches everywhere. We had the Mark Twain poem Arthur's mother read for us on our wedding cake, we had special Valentines day cookies on the table, personalized coconuts, welcome bags with individuals notes for our guests. We thought about every single guest and what we would do to make them enjoy our day as much as we knew we would.
What you loved the most about your day:
My sister being my maid of honour. She passed away shortly after my wedding as a medic in Nepal helping others and my wedding is my most cherish memory of her because it was the last time I spent with her. And I am so glad that we were able to spend so much time prior and during the wedding. To me my wedding is when I married my husband but its also my lasting memories of my beloved sister.
