Planning your seating chart proving more difficult than you thought?
If you’re feeling stressed thinking about what the best seating arrangement is going to be for your guests during the ceremony, relax.
There’s no specific hard and fast rules when it comes to seating arrangement, so don’t worry too much. Here’s a few basic traditional wedding guidelines that could help with your decisions:
Traditionally for a white wedding (the kind you see on TV with the bride walking down the aisle), the bride’s side of the guest list can be found sitting to the left while the groom’s side sits on the right.
They can be helpful if you’re having a wedding with for example, more than 50 guests. They help keep the flow of guests running smoothly and its helpful not to worry that your guests will have trouble finding a good spot.
Besides your family and bridal party, you’d want to have your elderly guests or any guests who may be in wheelchair or crutches near the front. If you these guests present at your wedding, seat them at the end of the rows so it’s easier for them to move in and out.
The first five rows are typically reserved for wedding party, immediate and extended family and any other special guests who may be present.
That’s for the ceremony, what about the reception, though? To help you figure out where everyone should sit during your reception, follow these rules of thumb:
The shape and the size of your reception table will decide how many guests will be seated per table. Round tables are among the best options, all your guests can see each other and it’s easier to have a conversation.
Both the bride and grooms’ parents should share one table, along with other members of the family who are not taking part in the wedding party. It’s a great way to give everyone a chance to know each other.
Once you’ve finalized the guest list into groups. Where possible, try to group guests similarly, such colleagues, friends from school, college friends etc. Guests feel more comfortable seating with people they are more familiar with.
