We are delighted to have, Vicky C., a well-known Hong Kong wedding stylist & planner, to share with us the most popular wedding trends in 2017/18. Every year, Vicky inspires couples with the hottest wedding trends. Last year, she was a guest speaker in the wedding workshop hosted by Lane Crawford, a global luxury fashion, beauty and lifestyle department store. The year of the Rooster 2017 is termed “Shuang Chun Nian” (雙春年). A year that is good for marriage; Spring is around the corner. It is time to start planning. ARE YOU READY?
1. 2017 Colour of the Year – Greenery
Announced by the colour authority PANTONE, greenery is the Colour of the Year for 2017. It is definitely a refreshing news for neutral tone lovers. 2017 will shift away from the traditional classic wedding themes. On design and decoration, green leaves are added for a finished touch, with continuation of last year's garden wedding theme.
2. Green Floral Design
With continuation of last year's garden wedding theme, floral crown and hairstyle with green leaves becomes a very trendy element.
A bridal bouquet with nude colour flowers and green leaves is a natural complement to the Colour of the Year.
3. Marble Pattern and Transparent Invitations
The beautiful Calligraphy is still in style this year. In term of pattern design, geometric, natural crystal and marble will be on-the-list this year. And the same pattern can be extended to other wedding decorations and arrangements for a complete cohesive effort.
4. Stunning Wedding Cake with Natural Crystal
Wedding cake is a MUST HAVE in every wedding celebration. Originated in Australia, the gorgeous geode cake is the latest wedding cake trend. It is made with colourful sugar rocks, creating intricate crystal formations, inside a white multi-layer frosted cake. Simple at same time, very chic.
Not quite ready to dive headlong into the trend? Go reserved with the agate or marble cake, similarly inspired by geology.
If you are not a fan of the geode cake, drips cake is a popular alternative.
5. Dessert Table with Natural Crystal
Wedding Dessert Table or Wedding Candy Bar Buffet has been popular for many years. In line with the latest geology trend, cake pops and cookies can also creatively be decorated with geode, agate or marble design. Surely will wow your guests.
Doughnut wall is another new big thing in wedding trends. Despite being fun, donut wall serves double-duty as both dessert and adorable decor. You can make patterns and words out of colourful doughnuts.
6. DIY Champagne - Mimosa Bar
For something different, ice-cream corner or popcorn corner gradually became trendy last year. In 2017, other than cakes and candies, there will be corner for beverages - Mimosa Bar.
Mimosa Bar is like bubble corner, it serves champagne, fruit juice and fresh fruit. Guests can create their specialty champagne cocktails based on their own taste and preferences. It is fun for guests to serve themselves and get to experiment with different concoctions making the plain champagne more interesting. Friends and family will totally get in the spirit and appreciate the personal touch the wedding couple have put into.
7. Entertainment – Tattoo Corner
Wedding entertainment is also become one of the key aspects of a wedding. Entertainment corner is a “must have item”. Photo booth is already very popular to keep guests entertained all throughout the wedding reception. Tattoo Corner is a new and innovative idea. Other than traditional wedding tattoo stickers, brides and grooms can create personalised stickers with their own logo.
8. Small Local or Overseas Wedding
Small and outdoor garden weddings are still very fashionable. As the average number of guests for a small wedding is around 50 - 80 people, wedding arrangements are comparatively easier. Hence brides and grooms put more emphasis on personalizing their wedding to make it perfectly tailored to their style.
9. Wedding QR Code
One of the latest wedding trends is to add new technology to the wedding. Following last year's LED screen backdrop, QR code is used increasingly for weddings. There are many different ways to use QR code such as seating arrangement, RSVPing through your wedding website, sharing wedding photos and videos and many more.
We are looking forward to see how bride-to-bes and groom-to-bes take inspiration from the latest trends and customize to make their weddings perfect.
