Situated along a magnificent white sand beach in Nusa Dua, The Westin Resort Nusa Dua is a luxurious five-star hotel offering its own private beach and several unique venues for both ceremonies and receptions. Hitchbird sat down with Executive Assistant Manager of F&B, Alexander Dietzsch to learn more about weddings at this beautiful beachfront resort.
I come from a F&B, event and catering background. I have been in couple destinations before including US, Europe (obviously where I am from), Middle East, Thailand and here. So, after been in many city properties, it is time to go to resort for me and I found this wonderful opportunity to go to Bali. Westin is one of the flagship property for our company in Asia and that’s why I am here. I have been in this resort for three years.

The hotel is on a ground of about five hectares, lots of gardens. But we also have convention event facilities and we actually have the perfect balance. So, you have the beach front, you have gardens of various sizes, obvious suitable for various sizes of big events and groups, plus you have indoor facilities in the convention centre.

Mangupura which can seat up to 1500 people. At the same time, whenever you go from your room to the convention area, you don’t have to leave the building. So, it is all connected, very convenience and very easy to reach. The facility is very balance because we also have restaurants of various sizes and different cuisines. In term of events, you have so many options - in the beachfront or in one of the restaurants. Having multiple events in different dates, you can pick a different venue to make sure it doesn’t get boring. You can also click here to check out on the lists of wines available in Bali, Indonesia.
Yes, Beachfront is for the ceremony. We have a very unique area next to the beach which is called the Temple Garden. We have a real temple that is also used, and right to it is the garden and is a beautiful scenery place to do wedding dinner or cocktail while you have the ceremony right at the beach. I would say that is the most popular spot. Make sure to also check out on the lists of florists in Bali, Indonesia.
For bigger weddings, we have bigger grounds as well. We have the Summer Garden which is on the other side of the hotel. We have indoor facilities as well for the real big weddings, we talk about having 650+. These are the key options. For pre-dinner cocktails or receptions, again, we have semi-outdoor restaurants, we have fully air-conditioned restaurants. So, there is lots of options.
We have signature Italian restaurant, and Italian chef as well, which is called Prego. We have a Japanese restaurant which features robatayaki, something which is very unique, especially in Bali, but very popular in Japan. We have a Tapas Bar, Spanish and South American. And we have the beachfront Indonesian seafood focused restaurant. So that gives us quite a portfolio. Cuisines also go into wedding menus, and obviously depend on what the guest want but we have the expertise on various cuisines. We are having an Indian executive chef even we don’t have an Indian restaurant but Indian cuisine is very spread throughout the resort and is very popular during lunch and during breakfast, even dining and also for Indian weddings.

I would say between 20 and 40 of various sizes. We have smaller weddings of 15-20 people. We have bigger weddings of 500-1000 people. Lately a lot of couples is from China but we also have more intimate weddings for smaller groups from Australia. We have Indian couples for bigger weddings. Those are the key markets at the moment. There are potential for China and India markets. As Bali becomes a popular international destination, US might become a market as well.

I think Bali has really kept its traditions and culture. And it has that mystical ambience which I think is very different from any of the other destinations that you mentioned. It is feel-able from the time you arrived, even at the airport, until you go into your resort, talking to the locals, directing with the locals, looking at the markets, the temples, the architectures throughout. The mystical ambience that you can’t find in anywhere else.
My favourite is SIP, French restaurant in Seminyak. Bambu, also in Seminyak, serves Indonesian cuisine with a twist. Third one, also in Seminyak, is Republik 45, which is an Indonesian restaurant offering a very unique indoor/ outdoor area with the hanging garden.
