AP Studio — The Production of a Personal Fairytale

The wedding movie or wedding film (very much like wedding photos) has become a major part and must-have feature of any modern day wedding celebration. Based in Hong Kong, passionate local and destination wedding film expert Stephen Chan from AP Studio recently met up with the editors at Hitchbird to discuss the inside outs of the industry, and also shared some useful tips for soon-to-be married readers.

What are the trends these days? I can see you have done a lot of “behind the scenes” videos.
I have observed nowadays that couples like taking concept videos, which is like a pre-wedding video with no limits on the actual content. We are able to capture whatever they like being filmed for their unique story or memory. Most of the time, the concept video will combine with the wedding day video and eventually become a complete love story or fairytale of the couple.

How long does a typical wedding video shoot last and how long does it take to edit everything and give the finished version to the couple?
Usually a shoot will last a day or two, one day for the concept video shooting and the other for the wedding day shooting. The completed version of the video will be given to the couple a month or two after the wedding.

What is the average cost for the production of a wedding video?
The cost of a wedding video will normally be around HK$18,000-30,000 (US$2,000-4,000), this depends on how many days is needed to film the concept video and then the wedding day video as well.

What pre-shoot tips can you share with our readers?

Think about the location, it’s always a great ideas to go somewhere lovely and also has some meaning or story behind it.
Incorporating hobbies are another way to make the shoot more personal.
If the bride-to-be is doing the hair and make up herself, take a little extra time perhaps and buy some new items to make you feel great. Remember to wear a little more makeup than usual whilst still keeping the look fairly natural, makeup doesn’t show up as much when on video.
Bring along a few props that match the shoot location and the feel of it, helping to make it as meaningful as possible for the couple.
