Chinese Olympic Diver Receives Silver Medal in Rio and Then More...

For Chinese diver He Zi, the overwhelming feeling of winning yet another Olympics medal (4th overall) could only play second fiddle to an even bigger prize that was to follow. After standing up on the podium to receive her silver medal for the women’s three-metre springboard last Sunday in Rio, she was soon greeted by fellow bronze medalist diver and long time boyfriend Qin Xai, who then went down on one knee before her. Luckily for Qin who’s shocking romantic gesture was watched by thousands of spectators in the Maria Lenk Aquatics Centre, and also millions of others watching on TV across the globe, the response from He Zi was a yes.

He Zi later told reporters “we’ve been dating for six years, but I didn’t expect him to propose today. He said a lot of things, made a lot of promises, but I think the thing that touched me the most is I think this is the guy I can trust for the rest of my life.”

Guess even on the world’s biggest sporting stage, there is always room for some romance and life’s most cherished moments.
