Destination Wedding in Boracay: Mitzi & Wei Keat's Road To Marriage

A love story can begin anywhere.
Even in a club.
This was what happened to Chew Wei Keat, 30, and Mitzi Logronio, 37. They met in a club in Singapore one night in 2016.
“My friends knew her first.... and I actually needed some liquid courage to approach her and ask for her name,” Wei Keat shared in an interview with Hitchbird.
That marked the beginning of their journey of getting to know one another. The duo began chatting on Facebook regularly and grew closer over time. Before you know it, they were in a steady relationship, and then married a year after that!
Mitzi is originally from Manila, Philippines, but has been living and working in Singapore for the past 10 years. Wei Keat on the other hand, was born and bred in Singapore.
Naturally, the two of them had different lifestyles, beliefs, and hobbies.
Mitzi shared, “I’m seven years older than Wei Keat. I have experienced living overseas and living on my own. It’s different from what he has experienced.”
Wei Keat on the other hand, shared that he spent pretty much his entire youth in Singapore, and that too, studying — just like every other Singaporean.
With a laugh, he admitted that he wasn’t as street smart as Mitzi.
One of the other challenges they faced was their religious difference. Mitzi comes from a Christian background and Wei Keat is a buddhist. For some, this would have been an issue.
Mitzi said, “It was something that we understood from the beginning and we respect each other for it.”
When asked if their parents had issues with their relationship, they both shared that both sides were pretty open and accepting of the racial and religious difference.
Despite their differences, they do share some common interests.
For one, they’re both in the design field. Wei Keat designs and prints stickers and banners whereas Mitzi does interior design.
When it comes to sports, Mitzi loves going to the gym, wakeboarding, surfing, and diving.
Although Wei Keat is not as much of a sports enthusiast like Mitzi, he does enjoy fishing and even has a professional license in scuba diving!
In fact, when he was a student at Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP), he joined the NYP Foreign Bodies — a street dance club founded in 1994!
With a laugh, Mitzi shared that the duo actually had three weddings! They had a registration of marriage and Chinese wedding in Singapore, followed by a destination wedding in Boracay.
“But, what we originally wanted was an intimate beach wedding,” she admitted.
“I love Boracay. It’s one of those places I can go to again and again. I even brought Wei Keat there twice and he loved it!”

So, the couple invited 75 of their closest family and friends to fly with them to Boracay for their dream destination wedding earlier this year.
After conducting research on wedding venues, the couple finally decided on Discovery Shores Boracay, which also happens to be one of the world’s best hotels in Asia.
Wei Keat shared, “The location is the first thing we looked at. Second is the service.”
Mitzi chimed in, “They (Discovery Shores) replied faster than everyone else (other venues). The package was complete and competitive. Also, it was in a secluded area, yet within walking distance to bars and clubs.”
The package included wedding planning, day-of coordination, and decoration.
“We sent them pictures of what we wanted for the decorations. When we saw it on that day, it was exactly what we wanted,” Mitzi added.
The couple opted for an all-white wedding ceremony that had a spectacular view of the beach.
Their dinner reception was held at the hotel’s beachfront, with a tropical paradise theme.
When asked what was the most beautiful aspect of their destination wedding in Boracay, they both said, “The sunset!” at almost the exact same time.
Just like Mitzi and Wei Keat, every couple has a unique story to tell. What makes a relationship work is the effort put in by both parties.
When it comes to wedding planning, it can get pretty stressful and it can really test the strength of one’s relationship.
Mitzi advised, “Put in the effort to communicate and understand each other. You both need to know what you want and how you want it to be.”
