Hitchbird sits down with Jamal Hussain, the General Manager at Nusa Dua Beach Hotel & Spa
Located on a 200-metre white sandy beach in the heart of Bali's prestigious "Millionaire Row" in Nusa Dua, Nusa Dua Beach Hotel & Spa is a luxury five-star beachfront resort with authentic Balinese heritage and culture. Hitchbird sat down with Jamal Hussain, the General Manager, to talk about weddings at this stunning hotel.
I guess I am blessed. I have been in Bali before and I previously ran three other resorts already in Bali. I used to be the General Manager for a hotel in Kuta, a hotel in Ungasan and a hotel in Sanur. I have been in Bali for almost twelve years running hotels and resorts. This one here is an absolutely beautiful resort. For me, it is easily the best out of the four resorts that I ran because it is truly a beach resort on a white-sandy beach. In Nusa Dua, it is already an established home. This hotel is also pretty special cause is one of the few leading original five-star resorts in Bali. We are actually about thirty-four years old.
This resort has 382 rooms. It also has 5 restaurants, 3 bars, 4 swimming pools, a recreation centre, a full-on spa facility, a ballroom and half a dozen banquet rooms and smaller meeting rooms. It sits on 9 hectares of land. It is a pretty fair-sized resort.

First of all, there is the breakfast restaurant, called Wedang Jahe. It has 230 seats and opens strictly for breakfast. It offers an international breakfast buffet with live cooking stations. After breakfast, the restaurant is used only for groups. The Resort also offers four other restaurants and they are all on the beach, on the grounds away from the hotel building.
The first one is Sandro’s which is a very causal Italian pizzeria, more like trattoria, very simple dishes, salad, pasta and pizza. Then we have Maguro which is an Asian restaurant. The cuisine encompasses food from Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, around the region. Tamarind is a Mediterranean Brasserie with European with Western influence. It offers Greek salad, Italian main courses, steaks, poultry etc.
And then we have a Balinese restaurant called Raja’s. It is a dining destination. It offers classical Bali cuisine and is our only air-conditioned restaurant. It is all about Bali specialities. We offer pretty much everything. For example, for Korean and Chinese dishes one goes to the Asian bistro. You get the Balinese and Indonesian cuisines in the Balinese restaurant. Then you have all the Western dishes covered in Tamarind and your traditional pizza and pasta in the Italian pizzeria.
We started with 30-40 weddings a year and now we cater to about 75 to 100 weddings a year. We cater for the small to medium sized weddings. The average size is 20 to 30. Every now and then, we have 200 to 300. The bigger ones are predominately local Indonesian weddings.

For us, the number one country of origin for weddings is Australia, possibly because of the proximity. And then we have Europe i.e. UK, Holland, Switzerland, Italy, Austria and Germany. Then of course we have Asia. Small weddings from Singapore and Hong Kong. There are quite a number from China and the number is gowning. China is a huge market in many ways, not just for weddings, but also for tourist arrivals.

Indians of course are a very popular source too. Not necessarily Indians from India, often they are Indians who are residing in Australia, England or Canada, second or third generation Indians who are living all over the world. We even have had Indian couples from Hong Kong. We can’t accommodate too many Indian weddings here simply because Indian weddings have huge attendance numbers.
La Lucciola in Seminyak is certainly a very nice venue which serves Italian cuisines. Another very nice venue is Ku De Ta in Seminyak, which serves Mediterranean cuisines. Last but not least is Ju-Ma-Na. It is a beautiful restaurant in Banyan Tree Ungasan and is on a cliff.
The romantic Nusa Dua Beach Hotel & Spa offers a range of beautiful wedding venues. Besides having the wedding on its pristine beach, couples can choose to celebrate in the Wedding Bale which is a gorgeous beachfront pavilion overlooking the ocean, or in the Agung Bale which is a stunning pavilion floating on a lotus pond at the tranquil Temple garden adjacent to an authentic Balinese amphitheatre, or indoor in the air-conditioned Keraton ballroom. The unique Balinese setting, the top-notch hospitality, the exotic intimacy together with such a wide range of facilities and services, it is no doubt a great place for any wedding arrangement. Brides, grooms and their guests will certainly have an unforgettable wedding holiday experience.
